Prevention: enough to stop a cyber-attack?
Cyber risks are the order of the day, and while we have previously given recommendations for preventing a cyberattack, the reality is that we must prepare for when it happens; after all, statistics indicate that the chances are increasing in 2020. Here are some facts:
- According to Kapersky Lab experts, Ransomware attacks targeting governments around the world grew 60% over 2018.¹
- Hackers no longer hide; they use social networks to connect with each other, share stolen data and tools; they constantly innovate and network globally.
- Cyber-attacks in the virtual world can have serious consequences in the physical world, for example, when institutions are forced to deny services due to compromised databases. This scenario encourages us to be prepared; despite our company's internal filters and protection mechanisms, we have no control over what others outside our company do, and it is quite possible that we will have to repair damages to third parties, for example, if personal data in our possession is hijacked.
Hence the importance of having solutions that allow:
- Maintain continuity of operations in the event of a cyber-attack;
- Reduce the likelihood of consequential economic losses;
- To have an action plan before and after an incident of this type;
- Covering the data theft liability of different actors, with local, national and multinational scope.
At Fidex, we can recommend cyber insurance options that cover liability for personal, corporate, outsourced and data security data, as well as insurance that helps with the costs of investigations, fines and administrative penalties resulting from a cyber attack and its aftermath, and most importantly, helps to restore your company's reputation.
